What Is Hydrogen?

Setting the scene for the series, this episode will give an introduction to the chemical element Hydrogen, including its properties and forms, and its potential role in facilitating energy transition, including enabling renewables growth and decarbonising hard to abate sectors.

Rachel O’Reilly is Counsel in the Projects, Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure group of Allen & Overy LLP. She specialises in advising on the commercial and financial arrangements core to energy transition, having experience working with utilities, developers, financiers and corporates across renewable and low carbon heat and power generation and supply, district heating, energy efficiency, energy management, energy storage and energy network flexibility services. She is a core member of A&O’s global Hydrogen and Carbon Capture Interest Group which co-ordinates and collaborates on the firm’s engagement with these technologies. Prior to May 2021, Rachel was Senior Legal Counsel at E.ON UK plc, with responsibility for leading the co-ordination and delivery of legal support to its industrial and communities solutions business in the UK.  Rachel was previously a Senior Associate at A&O, where her experience included advising commercial banks, ECAs and other institutions on a range of projects, including offshore wind and nuclear.
