The Sustainability Imperative

In 2020 the WFW Maritime Sector Group set out to see how those within the industry – owners, charterers, financiers and investors – are dealing with the biggest issues facing the shipping industry today; sustainability and wider environmental, social and governance (ESG) concerns. With over 500 senior level responses to our survey, interviews with 10 key industry participants and many hours of work by our own team later, we believe the final report that has been produced is a first for the industry on this crucial subject, and a work of substance and authority.

“The Sustainability Imperative; Reshaping the funding and governance of shipping” is an important read, and one that can help shape the parameters of the debate and discussion around sustainability and ESG in shipping going forward. The challenges that shipping faces to tackle these key issues are significant, but judging from the results of our initial survey, one the industry seems to collectively be ready to face.
